Ugly, noisy, smelly, and to be avoided at all costs. We’re told that it’s a health and safety
issue, and this is why animal farms and abattoirs these days are closed to the
public. In reality, these places have
all the charm of concentration camps, which is why only those people who work
in them know what goes on there. Enthusiastic
consumers of meat and milk products have a picture in their heads of a happy
farmyard (circa 1930) - they don’t want to know about the industrial processes
being applied to the rearing and killing of animals. If they did it would spoil their dinner.
