804:
Becoming ‘vegan’ is a prospect that horrifies most people.
It sounds as if one wants to starve oneself to death or commit social suicide,
or both. And who needs that? When you first find out about ‘vegan food choices’
you might crack up into fits of hysterical laughter; the usual knee-jerk
reaction is to go to the opposite extreme - you promising yourself a
life-long-loyalty to eating animals.
Meanwhile,
someone like me shakes his head in despair, “Huh, and you think it’s just about
food choices? And then some!” and I go away realising how important it is that
these initial misperceptions are fixed up. Until they are, no sensible dialogue
can take place, and none of the biggest dangers facing omnivores can be
avoided.
